About Your WSAPD Foundation

On December 12, 1995, the WSAPD Foundation began with only $250. By 2002, only 7 short years later, we had achieved our initial goal of raising $100,000 to support pediatric dentistry in Washington State. We are proud of our endowment to support the research and education programs of residents of the Graduate Program in Pediatric Dentistry at University of Washington. And, we look forward to expanding our impact based on our renewed fundraising efforts. Your WSAPD Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization managed by six volunteer board members.

How You Can Support the WSAPD Foundation

The founding members of the WSAPD Foundation defined a mission to improve the oral health of Washington’s children and as well as support advanced education in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Washington. To date, the Foundation has supported resident research and travel to CE meetings, and has established an endowment for ongoing program support. Upon reevaluation of the foundation’s focus, the WSAPD board has decided to broaden the mission by adding advancement of pediatric dentistry in the practice environment to the original goals.

Our Fundraising Goals

By December 31, 2009, we will raise $20,000 to fund:

• High quality continuing education opportunities for pediatric dentists
• Continued support of the UW advanced pediatric dental education endowment
• A grant program to support public health projects that benefit pediatric dentistry
• A reserve fund which would allow your board to support timely and worthwhile opportunities to advance pediatric dentistry

WSAPD Foundation Fundraising Support and Initiatives

As you know, all areas of education are experiencing drastic funding cuts. The WSAPD Foundation has set a goal to raise $20,000 by December 31, 2009. Past contributions have supported the following improvements for pediatric dental residents:

• November 2004- Purchase of Biostar Machine
• June 2005- Purchase of intraoral camera
• 2006 and 2008- Registration and airfare for UW pediatric dental residents to attend CSPD meeting
• March 2008- Purchase of statistical analysis software

Ongoing initiatives:

• Support for High Quality Continuing Education
  High Quality continuing education opportunities are critical to the advancement of pediatric dental practice. The WSAPDF board will review these opportunities as they arise and as appropriate will direct support to assure the advancement of pediatric dental practice.
• UW Endowment
  To date, the WSAPD Foundation has donated $115,000 towards the University of Washington Endowment Fund. Further donations to this will continue to support the education of tomorrow’s pediatric dentists.
• Public Health Grants
  Investments in public health initiatives benefit all dentists that treat pediatric dentists. Supporting our public health partners is a good thing for us all.
• Build Reserves
  Every organization that wants to be around for the long-run needs a solid bank account. WSAPD Foundation wants to be able to quickly respond to discretionary programs and make immediate gifts to organizations and initiatives that support our mission.
